Refresh Loop?
Published on January 1, 2022 By betawolf In Fences

I am currently running the latest Windows 11 on my new Dell system. In addition, I am running Fences,  Start11, WindowBlinds, and several other Stardock products. For the most part, things work.

When Windows decides it is time to refresh (I think), I am thrown into a loop where Fences crashes, and it tries to restart over and over. The only way out is to hit multiple keys until you can stop the madness. When you choose any menu items to Universal Applications, this will also happen.

As I write this, I made the mistake of touching one of the menu items, so (Fences is not even running) I will have to ride this out. This continued for dozens of error notification windows popping up about Fences (again, Fences is not running). I do not know why it finally stopped.

Is anyone else having these kinds of problems with Stardock products on Windows 11? I find it odd that there is no support when you spend money on these products. If you ask for help, they direct you back to the people who bought the items. If all businesses run this way, it would be so convenient for the company offering these products to say to the buyer, “tough – you figure it out.” It makes me wonder the customer service and company integrity. I have been a paying customer for a long time – maybe it’s time Stardock offered customer service and support, not just being spot on when it comes to pushing and selling their products.

Enough of my rant – sorry about that – a bit frustrated. Anyhow, anyone? Help?

Thanks,

betawolf

As requested, Fences purged/reinstalled - WindowBlinds has been removed until compatible with W11 - any chance Curtain will someday be compatible? However, when clicking on a menu item, the whole system still runs a refresh - I no longer seem to be getting the Fences error screen - that's good - any ideas on why this annoying screen refresh? Thanks for your help on this.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. May I know, what Stardock products you still have installed in your system?

And, even you have removed WindowBlinds, please try running the purge for Windowblinds, just to be sure, using the guide here (just do the purge part) : https://forums.stardock.com/486023/windowblinds-support-faq#reinstalling. Try it, reboot after the purge, test the issue and report back.

Thanks.

WindowFX removed - the system continues to refresh but is not as annoying as it was - again, this happens when you choose a menu item like in the universal applications.

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10/11 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Scan run - system found errors and corrected them - the system still runs refresh when you access any menu items - at this point, I have to believe that it is an issue with Start11 - The Fences Loop has been addressed - obviously, if I do not use Start11 there is no problem - have we whittled it down enough to make this call?

Please try purge and reinstall steps for Start10/11 as mentioned here: [link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

followed instructions as requested - problem continues to persist - I guess I will wait for an update on Start11

on Jan 03, 2022

this issue continues to grow more frustrating - now that I have re-installed Start11, all of the items under Universal Applications are now gone. Any idea how to get them back?

There are not many people using Windows 11 yet. However, I am one of them.  Today I started using stardock WindowsBlind.  However, not long after, I had to uninstall it as I realised it was creating some instability on my windows 11 system.  I am interested in subscribing, but it looks as if I will have to wait until they upgrade stardock to make it compatible with windows 11 as I understand that windows 11 is 64-bit whilst stardock is 32-bit.

Have you tested the issues without stardock software. I do know there has been similar issues like the one that you are describing until the graphics driver is updated.
